Last month, after posting my short story (see below) on a website, I got this reply: Now when i was in the military when someone disrespected you you and them would have a good long talk about it, preferably where other people couldn't see. Seeing how I wasn't in the military and cannot have a good long talk about it where people can't see, I've decided, as an individual to take more civil approaches to addressing these kinds of prejudice issues, even when it comes from a troll on a fantasy forum (of all places). So, I can't allow myself to allow others to get under my skin. In fact, I can't wait to plaster this post all over the internet! See what I did skull man? I took your BS and used it for the opposite of what you wanted Sadly, I'm not writing this post because of one person (although this person is here on this forum), but because of many; The Norse pagans who play viking fantasy IRL that hate people who aren't straight and white, That one group of "gamer girls" that cosplay then reject transgender people for doing the same thing despite saying they are LBGT friendly, J.K. Rowling who attacks the identity of trans people despite a great percentage of her adult fans are LGBT, and all the extremist right-wingers that watch LOTR then enact measures to violently suppress people that aren't exactly like themselves. Now, what do all these people have in common? Answer: They're hypocrites. What is a hypocrite exactly? A person who pretends to have certain beliefs, attitudes or feelings when they really do not. In other words I'm here to argue today that if a person dislikes people who identify as LGBT for the sake of them identifying as LGBT, then those same people are contradicting themselves when they immerse themselves in any kind of fantasy. Why? because if one immerses themselves in a subjective universe (I.E. any fantastic work ever) then one will have voluntarily removed themselves from a totality of objectivism. Therefore, calling someone who identifies as the gender opposite assigned to them at birth a "Sick bastard" represents the denial of fantasy and anything that has anything to do with subjectivity. ob·jec·tiv·ism The tendency to lay stress on what is external to or independent of the mind. sub·jec·tiv·i·ty The quality of being based on or influenced by personal feelings, tastes, or opinions. The quality of existing in someone's mind rather than the external world. "the subjectivity of human perception" Example of Objective writing: The woman walked ten paces forwards. Turned and sat down. Her face contorted to show the emotion of happiness. At no point during the next 10 minutes did she frown. At approximately 15 minutes of her sitting there, she began twiddling a pen in her right hand in a circular motion. She did not write anything. Example of Subjective writing: The woman, whose cherry lips sent chills down my old spine, strode forwards like a cat stalking her prey. Her smile was one that seemed to hide the daggers Machiavelli spoke of behind blood red kiss-makers. When she sat, she sat with grace, a kind of grace that let me know she had experience when dealing with men. Suffice to say, I was intimidated and more so when she winked at me. I could barely speak, but over the course of the next 10 minutes, the interview opened in earnest. With a tremble in my voice that reddened my face, I asked her those questions one must ask. If I could've done so without making a complete ass of myself, I would've have checked my blood pressure. When I got to the question that asked if she was married, I hesitated. "Something wrong?" She asked like a pit viper ready to strike. I looked down at the question and then up at the woman, whose bosom was nearly ready to burst out of her top. "Are you..." I choked. "Are you..." I could feel droplets of sweat pouring down my brow as I looked into those snake like green eyes. Her smile widened and, for the first time, I saw her teeth. They were the color of pearls. "Am I married?" She finished for me with a laugh. **** As a person that was born a male and subjectively identifies as a woman... (Please note, in this essay I will not be putting forth the argument that there are biological components to why a person can identify as the gender opposite to the one assigned at birth. Just know there is scientific evidence to support particular claims about that argument that can be reference via google) ...my experience, my entire internal experience, is through a subjective lens that shows me a reality as though I were a woman. Just like how the aforementioned man had his own "soul" that gave him an internal experience (one I'm sure most men can relate to, I.E. it's what makes you a Man) Whereas a man would see the beautiful woman as "sexy." I would get jealous: "The woman, whose cherry lips sent a jealous wave of anger thundering through my gut, strode forwards like a cat stalking her prey. Her smile was one that seemed to hide the daggers Machiavelli spoke of behind blood red kiss-makers. When she sat, she sat with grace, a kind of grace that let me know she had experience seducing men. Suffice to say, I found myself hating myself when I realized I lacked that grace." I myself have a subjective reality which I CANNOT willfully change that alludes to the idea that I exist as a woman. This applies to everyone reading this post in one way or another! We should not ask the macho man Randy Savage to become an effeminate cam girl, nay as much as we should ask the super model to become a ninja warrior. Thus, every person see's the world through a subjective lens! Some more than others! Everything you see, every symbol, every line of dialogue is subjective because you interpret it through your mind! That's not to say objectivity doesn't exist! It's just as important for our human experience as it is for the ultra conservatives! All artwork is founded upon a subject and object. Hence in writing there is subject and object as well as in Artwork. "The term subjects in art refers to the main idea that is represented in the artwork. The subject in art is basically the essence of the piece. To determine subject matter in a particular piece of art, ask yourself: What is actually depicted in this artwork?" -www.art-is-fun.com, Thaneeya McArdle 2008-2020
All fantasy literature is artwork. All Fantasy literature requires a reader to accept subjectivity. Because subjectivity is the essence, the "soul" of the piece. The thesis, the main idea, what it actually represents. If my life were a piece of art: a song, I represent my essence, my soul as female. It's who in my heart I know myself to be. Quite frankly I love myself, for allowing myself to be myself. It may be hard and I may have to be attacked by the same citizens I went to war to protect, but I walk this road nevertheless. For if I don't, the song I sing will be the song of defeat. And that, my friends, is not a song I wish to sing. Thank you for reading. In the words of Dumbledore: (A character created by same woman that implied transwomen are not women): "Of course it's in your head Harry, but that doesn't mean it's not real."
